About the role
This position provides personal care for residents to assure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times within a safe environment. You will assist with activities of daily living, offer emotional and social support, and attend to residents’ overall physical comfort.
Responsibilities
- Implement each individual’s Service Plan, therapeutic physical/psychological care, and increase independent vocational and leisure skills.
- Carry out restorative plans and maintain documentation of behavioral symptoms and other data collection requirements per the Service Plan.
- Promote independence with personal hygiene, ambulation, community access, meal preparation, laundry, and household tasks.
- Provide appropriate interventions during medical, behavioral, and/or facility emergencies as an integral team member.
- Perform personal hygiene tasks: bathing (tub, shower, bed bath), oral care, skin and nail care, hand washing, grooming, shaving, dressing, and weighing residents.
- Encourage residents toward independent personal care and assist with toileting, including bowel and bladder retraining and perineal care.
- Assist with mobility, transferring, ambulation, positioning, and range of motion per the Individual Service Plan.
- Administer all medications and treatments as prescribed; manage medication orders, requests, transcription, and verification of narcotic counts.
- Document all cares given, including dietary intake/output, vital signs (temperature, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respiration), using approved abbreviations.
- Serve meals, motivate and assist residents with nourishment and fluid intake.
- Participate in resident care planning through shift reports and staffing meetings; report observations and changes in residents to licensed nurses or supervisors.
- Answer call signals and resident requests immediately.
- Maintain resident rooms and unit cleanliness; keep personal belongings and equipment clean and properly labeled.
- Escort residents to appointments and participate in household activity programs as needed.
- Perform inventory of residents’ possessions on admission, discharge, or transfer; track and reconcile resident fund accounts.
- Assist with deposits and withdrawals from resident accounts for community activities.
- Respond to resident emergencies, including bleeding, falls, seizures, CPR, and Heimlich maneuver; assist with post-mortem care as assigned.
- Transport dietary and linen carts; perform housekeeping and laundry duties as needed.
- Train and orient new Household Assistants; provide backup assistance to other department personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of PPE and its proper use for personal safety.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of resident care information and protect resident rights per HIPAA.
- Knowledge of chemicals used in housekeeping and laundry, including hazardous materials and isolation procedures.
- Ability to create and maintain a warm, personal, and clean environment.
- Ability to work tactfully and cooperatively with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
- Strong verbal communication skills with residents, families, the public, and team members.

Physical and Work Environment
- Occasional exertion of up to 75 pounds of force.
- Regularly requires sitting; frequently requires standing, speaking, hearing, and using hands for handling or repetitive motions.
- Occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching with hands and arms.
- Standard vision requirements; vocal communication essential for exchanging ideas.
- Hearing required to perceive information in moderately loud conditions.
- Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens; may require specialized PPE.
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, infectious wastes, diseases, and medical conditions.
- Work primarily in a healthcare setting with specialized resident programs.
- Operates motor vehicles or equipment; observes surroundings and activities.
- Exposure to infectious agents, chemical agents, and resident behaviors.
Pay
Starting wage: $18.12/hour. Shift differentials: $2.00/hour for PM & NOC shifts; $3.00/hour for weekends.
