About the role
The House Operations Manager (HOM) at the University of Iowa Health Care - Medical Center North Liberty coordinates and facilitates patient care functions within the hospital 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. This individual ensures that hospital policies and procedures are followed and notifies appropriate nursing leader and/or hospital administrator on-call of any problems or situations above their authority to solve.
Responsibilities
- Hire, develop and manage the performance of staff in a nursing unit, clinic or other patient care area.
- Responsible for talent management of staff and identify succession plan strategies.
- Follow and apply leave management policies.
- Knowledgeable of and implement human resources policies/procedures and provisions in the collective bargaining agreements.
- Prepare budget or assist in development; provide projections and recommendations.
- Maintain unit/clinic operating budget within specified targets. Analyze variances and create action plans to take corrective action.
- Understand financial implications of collective bargaining agreements.
- Allocate resources to meet quality and productivity expectations.
- Review patient satisfaction data and develop, implement and evaluate plan(s) to enhance patient satisfaction.
- Ensure unit/clinic is survey ready.
- Audit care coordination within multidisciplinary team to maximize patient satisfaction and continuity of care.
- Identify needs, trends, and forecasts in order to provide quality patient care and ensure appropriate flex staffing.
- Develop action plans for the unit/clinic or division that meets health care strategic goals. Monitor/evaluate goal implementation and provide progress reports to nursing leadership.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary participation in clinical problem solving.
- Utilize unit councils to identify opportunities for improvement and innovative models of care using a multidisciplinary team to impact patient outcomes.
- Educate and mentor staff in the management of complex patient care issues. Provide clinical education and coaching to develop staff competency and professionalism.
- Participate in and support education of health care students.
- Encourage staff to participate in evidence-based practice research initiatives and incorporate best practices into unit operations.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's in Nursing is required. Preferred Master's degree (in nursing, MBA or healthcare related) or Doctorate (DNP, PhD).
- Experience: 3 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital within the past 5 years. Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience, such as charge nurse or comparable role with demonstrated operational responsibility.
- Skills: Demonstrated skill in leadership/management. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in computer software applications. Certification in a role or specialty through a nationally recognized professional nursing certification body (if not currently certified, must seek certification within 5 years).
- Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrated positive Service Excellence skills. Flexibility with scheduling. MOAB or CPI certification.
Qualifications
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required.
