About the role
Under the general supervision of the Director of Residential Services, the House Manager is responsible for the operation of a residential home. This role is part of the direct care team, working with staff to provide care to individuals with intellectual disabilities, ensuring they can access quality services efficiently and cost-effectively. The House Manager supervises direct care staff within their assigned residence.
Responsibilities
- Supervises the day-to-day operation of the home in compliance with regulations and Agency standards.
- Provides supervision and training to individuals with intellectual disabilities to promote growth toward their highest potential.
- Supervises Lead Staff and Direct Support Professionals, ensuring accountability, and collaborates with the Division Manager on disciplinary actions, including verbal and written warnings, performance improvement plans, suspensions, and terminations.
- Conducts weekly checks of service and medication books, reporting errors or omissions promptly and completing audit forms as required.
- Maintains professionalism and serves as a role model for staff, fostering a positive approach at all times.
- Coordinates and participates in direct support staff training, including orienting new staff, arranging training sessions, and supporting ongoing staff development.
- Ensures fiscal responsibility by managing household budgets, petty cash, food orders, and individuals' funds.
- Ensures accurate and timely submission of incident and seizure reports, activity calendars, weight charts, fire drills, outgoing mail, supply requests, and inventories.
- Completes employee performance evaluations promptly.
- Participates in the Individual Program (IP) planning process and ensures quality leisure activities are planned and carried out.
- Maintains the residential home and assigned vehicle(s) for cleanliness, organization, and safety, taking corrective action when necessary.
- Takes necessary action in emergencies following Agency policies and reports incidents to appropriate personnel.
- Transports individuals served to medical appointments, adjunct therapies, and other activities.
- Communicates with families, external personnel, and delegating nurses to coordinate medical services.
- Handles household shopping duties and ensures necessary supplies are available in the home.
- Obtains and maintains updated emergency contact information and regulatory documentation in the homes.
- Monitors medication supplies, administration, reordering, and documentation, reporting problems or errors promptly.
- Ensures completion of fire drills, routine water temperature checks, and safety committee reports, reviewing and submitting these reports monthly.
- Reports vehicle problems, follows up on weekly vehicle reports, and arranges maintenance and repairs.
- Establishes accountability practices for petty cash and individual funds, submits receipts timely, and reports irregularities.
- Initiates and follows up on maintenance requests using established procedures, including after-hours emergency maintenance.
- Maintains program files and conducts monthly house meetings.
- Uses technology for the completion of specified job duties.
- Attends work regularly according to the assigned schedule and Agency policy.
- Participates in in-service training, staff meetings, and other professional development activities.
- Responds timely to internal and external customers to ensure service excellence.
- Works cooperatively with staff, supervisors, administrators, individuals served, community professionals, customers, vendors, and the public.
- Assumes other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited school is preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with persons who have a developmental disability in a group residence.
- Experience in a management or supervisory position.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the Agency’s insurance carrier and policy.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
At the discretion of the Personnel Officer, additional related experience and/or education may be substituted for the requirements specified above.
