House Electrician III

About the role

The House Electrician III is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical/electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment. This role involves hands-on assembly and disassembly of component parts following diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications, all within Seneca Gaming Corporation’s policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Design, plan, layout, install, and service all phases of commercial electrical systems, including service entrances, distribution, emergency generator systems, advanced lighting systems, motor controls, wiring in classified locations, and fire alarm systems.
• Maintain and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures, and electrical systems in accordance with electrical codes, blueprints, manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
• Install wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus, including cutting, threading, bending, coupling, and strapping conduit up to 4” in size.
• Diagnose and repair malfunctioning electrical apparatus (transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, wiring, and electronic components) using test equipment such as volt meters, ohm meters, megohm meters, GFI testers, and phase rotation meters.
• Work on circuits up to and including 13,200 volts, adhering to NFPA 70E standards.
• Interpret complex wiring and line drawings, and prepare switching plans to safely de-energize switchgear with minimal impact on facility operations.
• Develop load-shedding schemes to maximize facility operations during maintenance or emergencies.
• Operate emergency generation equipment and connect it to building loads during emergencies, with knowledge of phasing and synchronizing generated sources.
• Install, wire, troubleshoot, and repair variable frequency drives (VFDs) using wiring diagrams, manuals, and technical documents, including diagnosing fault codes and setting parameters.
• Perform medium voltage switching and racking in/out of medium voltage switches.
• Install, troubleshoot, test, and repair telecommunications and data wiring, devices, and terminations per industry standards (EIA-TIA), including fiber optic cable installations.
• Install, service, and repair complex sign circuits and controls, including working on suspended platforms at heights up to 350’.
• Install power supply wiring and conduit for machines, robotics, conveyors, PLCs, CNCs, and other programmable control instruments.
• Inspect and operate programmable controllers to verify repairs.
• Repair electronic components using test equipment, replacement parts, brazing, soldering, and welding tools.
• Guide day-to-day operations of on-site electricians, including training staff and planning/scheduling work for other electricians and subcontractors.
• Instruct employees and subcontractors on work safety practices and procedures for electrical projects.
• Direct installation projects for coaxial/fiber optic cable, telephone systems, computer wiring, intercom systems, time clocks, fire/security systems, street lights, and specialty lighting.
• Perform preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance on building equipment, including troubleshooting control issues and loading programs.
• Maintain compliance with information security policies and procedures, including the Seneca Gaming Corporation Acceptable Use Policy.
• Provide exceptional customer service and maintain a professional work environment.
• Adhere to attendance guidelines and regulatory, departmental, and company policies.
• Complete required SGC training programs within nine months of employment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an apprentice program, journeyman training, and a Master Electrician’s license from an appropriate jurisdiction, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and experience.
• Ten years of hands-on electrical experience, with at least three years involving training and guiding electrical trades.
• Experience in commercial electrical applications.
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand electrical one-line/three-line diagrams, schematics, and drawings.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting circuits, motors, and equipment using drawings and owner’s manuals.
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code, New York State Uniform Building and Fire Prevention Code, NFPA, and OSHA standards.
• Experience with UPS systems, static/manual/automatic bypass switches, battery maintenance/testing, and transfer switches.
• Ability to read, interpret, and implement architectural, engineering, and design drawings.
• Experience directing subcontractors to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading, electrical theory, electronics, mathematics, mechanical drawing, electrical code requirements, safety/first aid, welding, fire alarm systems, HVAC, and plumbing.
• Experience with medium voltage equipment, switchgear, and systems served by multiple utility feeds/generation sources.
• Certification as a “competent person” for suspended scaffolding and experience working on such equipment.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record acceptable to the company’s liability insurance carrier.
• Proven ability to act as a lead electrician and mentor others.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Ability to stand, walk, and move through all areas of the casino, including tight spaces and heights up to 90 feet above ground level.
• Frequent work on ladders and scaffolds, with prolonged standing.
• Perform heavy/strenuous manual work in extreme temperatures (below 32°F and above 90°F).
• Exposure to moderately loud to loud noise levels, including environments where smoking is permitted.
• Maintain physical stamina and mental attitude to work effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Pay

Starting rate: $32.00 per hour. Compensation is negotiable based on experience and education.
