Hourly Academic Tutor - Academic Access Program

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in the discipline or relevant field
• At least 12 credits in the discipline
• Prior tutoring experience desirable

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proven ability to work effectively with students of varying ages, cultures, and knowledge bases
• Proven ability to communicate ideas, principles, and concepts effectively in individual or small group settings
• Intermediate-level computer literacy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and specialized software programs
• Knowledge of information research strategies
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and faculty
• Fluency in a second language preferred

Responsibilities

• Work one-on-one with students on specific concepts and skills
• Tutor individual students in fundamental and advanced skills and areas of knowledge
• Respond to student questions requiring an in-depth knowledge of subject matter, course concepts, and learning objectives
• Assist in conducting student support functions
• Support student use of discipline-specific technology and the course learning management system

Qualifications

• Background in math or science
• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
