About the Role
Performs routine duties in the cleaning and servicing of assigned areas, ensuring supplies are available for guest convenience and comfort. Adheres to specific Brand Standards as instructed.
Responsibilities
- Makes beds neatly with fresh linen (sheets, duvet, blankets, and pillow cases).
- Makes rollaway beds, cribs, and sofa beds.
- Removes dirty linen and picks up debris/trash from floors.
- Empties trash in wastebaskets and cleans mirrors, shelves, closets, and in-room safes (if unused).
- Inspects and restocks collateral, including marketing materials, replacing expired or damaged items.
- Wipes door frames, window sills, walls, baseboards, and arranges furniture properly.
- Cleans appliances, equipment, furniture, and cupboards; high-dusts artwork.
- If applicable: Removes trash, sweeps, and dusts balcony/patio areas.
- Cleans and disinfects bathrooms (basin, bathtub, toilet, tile, flooring, and walls) using approved cleaning chemicals.
- Replenishes bathroom supplies/amenities and linen in accordance with brand/hotel standards.
- Replenishes room supplies (coffee, condiments, mugs, glassware, utensils, cups, stationery, pens).
- Cleans mirrors, windows, vent covers, and glass doors.
- If applicable: Cleans and disinfects kitchens (counters, refrigerators, stoves, tile, flooring, and walls).
- Reports room status (vacant/occupied; clean/dirty; Do Not Disturb) in a timely manner.
- Reports items requiring repair or additional cleaning to the appropriate department.
- Restocks housekeeping cart and vacuums hallways.
- Turns in all lost and found articles immediately.
- Operates a light vacuum cleaner under beds, on carpets, and in front of hallway doors.
- Consistently models the behavior of a ‘Baywood Ambassador’ by:
- Maintaining a professional image (grooming, verbiage, and body language).
- Warmly greeting guests and coworkers (using the 10/5 rule and first/last names).
- Actively listening to guests and responding to questions/concerns.
- Seeking guidance or assistance to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Fostering teamwork by offering assistance to others as needed.
- Monitoring surroundings for cleanliness, safety, security, or maintenance issues and reporting discrepancies.
- Contributing to a safe work environment by following safety guidelines (attire, protective gear, procedures).
- Recommending other Baywood properties to guests when appropriate.
- Making an effort to ‘WOW the guest’ by demonstrating the motto ‘It’s Better at Baywood!’
- Additional duties may be assigned at management’s discretion.
Requirements
- Some high school education (grade 9 preferred).
- Previous hotel experience preferred; 2+ years of related customer service experience may substitute.
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets.
- Ability to learn franchise standards and procedures.
- Ability to complete housekeeping forms and report problems or unusual conditions to management.
- Ability to read and comprehend manuals.
- Strong communication skills with guests and coworkers.
- Ability to work within scheduling guidelines and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to perform light to moderately heavy housekeeping duties using approved chemicals and equipment.
Physical Demands
- Walking and standing frequently (for entire shift).
- Ability to carry 40 lbs. up to 25 feet.
- Lifting, push/pull: 90% of the time; ability to lift up to 15 lbs. regularly and 40 lbs. to waist, chest, or above the head.
- Ability to push a housekeeping cart regularly.
- Bending, stooping, reaching: 95% of the time (throughout the entire shift); ability to bend at the knees with up to 40 lbs.
Environmental Conditions
- Primarily indoors with protection from weather but not necessarily temperature changes.
- Rarely exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
