Hotel Maintenance Laborer(Part-Time)

About the role

The Hotel Maintenance Laborer supports the upkeep, cleanliness, and basic maintenance of resort buildings, grounds, and equipment. This entry-level position works under the direction of the Hotel Maintenance Manager and assists Hotel Maintenance Technicians with routine tasks, preventative maintenance activities, and general labor duties while providing excellent guest service.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic preventative maintenance (PM) tasks as assigned and document completed work.
• Assist Maintenance Technicians and supervisors with repairs, installations, and maintenance projects.
• Clean maintenance shops, mechanical rooms, storage areas, and other building spaces, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and general housekeeping.
• Paint interior and exterior surfaces, including walls, trim, and other facility areas.
• Remove trash and debris from resort property and designated disposal areas.
• Perform snow removal and ice control activities, including shoveling, salting, and clearing walkways.
• Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials as requested.
• Assist with unloading, receiving, organizing, and storing deliveries and inventory.
• Assist with basic building maintenance tasks, including replacing light bulbs, filters, and other minor components.
• Support other departments with labor-related projects as needed.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Provide courteous and professional service to guests and fellow team members.
• Complete work assignments as directed by the Maintenance Manager or Supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to navigate the internet.
• Valid Vermont Operator’s License and eligibility for Jay Peak Inc’s motor vehicle insurance policy.
• Entry-level knowledge of building maintenance tasks. Prior maintenance, construction, landscaping, or custodial experience is helpful but not required.
• Ability to use basic hand tools safely.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn maintenance skills.

Physical demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasionally required to sit and taste or smell.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more.

Work environment

• Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to wet or humid (non-weather) conditions, working in high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Resort conditions

This is a Winter Resort Area. Work venues are varied and may include steep stairways, multi-level buildings, and outdoor work areas, subject to very cold, sometimes wet, or very sunny work sites. Some facilities are semi-remote and can only be reached by traveling via chair lift(s), skis, or snowboards. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped, and slippery. Proper footwear is required indoors and out. Work days, hours, and the number of hours required will vary, with an emphasis on weekends and holidays.
