Hotel Maintenance (Engineering) - Full Time

About the Role

Hotel Maintenance team member responsible for maintaining positive guest relations, performing routine and emergency maintenance, and ensuring the reliability and safety of all hotel systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain positive guest relations at all times; resolve guest complaints to high satisfaction.
• Follow Hotel policies for lost and found items, guest/team member accidents, injuries, and emergency situations.
• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and finish work throughout the hotel, including HVAC, elevators, fire safety systems, generators, lighting, and water supply.
• Prioritize work orders through urgent requests and establish hotel area downtimes to minimize guest inconvenience.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of projects.
• Check and repair electrical systems such as air conditioning controls, television sets, and lighting; make minor repairs or replacement orders.
• Perform routine and major repairs on hotel equipment including small appliances, kitchen equipment, boilers, HVAC, hand/power tools, and plumbing systems (pipelines, toilets, sinks, etc.).
• Refurbish furniture and fixtures within guest rooms (cabinets, tables, chairs, doors, windows, counters); paint and finish as needed.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and system failures; resolve issues promptly to minimize guest inconvenience and downtime.
• Assist with the preventive maintenance program to ensure equipment reliability and longevity; regularly inspect and service equipment.
• Respond swiftly to emergency situations (power outages, leaks, floods, fire alarms) and collaborate with staff to maintain guest safety.
• Provide timely and courteous support to guests reporting maintenance issues in rooms or public areas.
• Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts; replenish stock and keep organized records.
• Collaborate with housekeeping, front desk, and other departments to coordinate maintenance activities.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations (fire prevention, electrical safety, hazardous materials); maintain accurate inspection and maintenance records.
• Participate in OSHA/Safety Programs as required.
• Inspect, plan, and ensure readiness of materials and equipment for service.
• Maintain security, cleanliness, and repair of engineering tools and safety features within budget.
• Stay knowledgeable about correct equipment use and comply with all departmental policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be a United States citizen or possess a valid work permit.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English; fluency in other languages is beneficial.
• Ability to accurately follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with urgency and empathy.
• Outstanding coordination and multi-tasking abilities.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Ability to learn and work with POS, PMS, CRM, and other hospitality-specific software systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with guests, vendors, and team members.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year in a maintenance capacity.
• Previous experience working with heavy machinery and tools.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHA requirements.
• Basic knowledge of swimming pools and chemicals preferred.
• Basic knowledge of repairing and replacing: electrical systems, plumbing, painting, HVAC equipment, refrigeration, kitchen equipment, and general property maintenance.

Working Conditions

• Must be able to stand and move freely about the property for the majority of the shift.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand/arm movements frequently; squeezing and overhead reaching occasionally.
• Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces frequently.
• Must be able to frequently handle objects and equipment to maintain the property.
• Must be able to walk outside in various weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).
• Must be able to climb stairs occasionally, both indoors and outside in various weather conditions.
• Must be able to work in variable room temperatures and with loud noises.
• Must have good vision, either natural or with corrective lenses.

Pay

$22 to $25 per hour.

Supervision

Reports to the Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or General Manager depending on the property.
