Hot Food Clerk

About the Role

Food Servers in the Hot Foods Department attend to customer requests for prepared food sold by the pound or individual servings, ensuring customer satisfaction and excellent service. Duties must be carried out in a manner consistent with Sedano’s Supermarkets' goals, values, and operating principles, and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Employees are responsible for following departmental and company policies, maintaining a safe environment, and providing outstanding customer service.

Responsibilities

• Promptly attend to customers’ requests for department food products
• Properly handle, display, and dispense food
• Weigh and/or measure proper portions of food in appropriate containers
• Accurately process and accept payment for goods sold in the department
• Ensure all standards of cleanliness are maintained, including the use of gloves and hair nets
• Take safety measures when handling or carrying hot trays of food
• Maintain awareness of floor conditions to protect customers, vendors, and employees
• Restock displays of food as needed; retrieve food from the back room, kitchen, and cooler
• Restock containers, bags, utensils, etc., as needed
• Sweep and/or mop the floor as needed
• Wipe countertops, cooking areas, and display cases as needed
• Maintain a sanitary work area to keep food safe from contamination; keep the work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards
• Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, knives, plates, and other department utensils and equipment properly
• Follow department procedures for federal, state, and company health, safety, and sanitation codes
• Report all accidents promptly according to company procedures
• Attend and participate in departmental and store meetings
• Ensure punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies; cover work responsibilities during foreseeable absences
• Perform other work-related duties as required

Secondary Responsibilities

• Assist in the Cafeteria or Bakery area as needed
• Assist in the Kitchen when needed
• Assist with supply orders; notify the manager when supplies are low
• Add or change paper or ink cartridges in registers, printers, or other equipment

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
• Minimum of 18 years of age
• Previous food service experience required
• Current food safety training certificate, which must be renewed every three years

• Ability to read and speak English and Spanish preferred
• Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Basic math and numeral recognition
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form
• Ability to use department equipment properly to accomplish essential duties
• Adequate knife handling skills
• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness

• Ability to work scheduled hours and days, including holidays and weekends

The work environment is a grocery store with frequent contact with supervisors, employees, and customers. Noise level is low to moderate. The position may involve the use of knives, case cutters, scales, stock carts, exposure to hot/cold temperatures, ovens, coolers, ice machines, and cleaning supplies and equipment.
