About the Role
Direct the overall meal service operation in the full-service dining room, ice cream parlor, and bar, ensuring compliance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, regulations, and facility policies.
Qualifications
- College degree in a related field and/or at least one year of experience with waitress or hostess responsibilities.
- Current CPR certificate or ability to become certified within two weeks of employment.
- Knowledgeable of dietary procedures.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English in an understandable manner.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies, and the general public.
- Leadership and supervisory ability, with a willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
- Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress.
- Possess sight and hearing senses (or use prosthetics) to function adequately in the role.
- Ability to function independently, with flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, visitors, family members, personnel, and support agencies.
- Good general health and emotional stability.
- Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people.
- May be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment and supplies in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the workday.
- Ability to taste and smell food to determine quality and palatability.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all Dining Room Aides follow established departmental policies and procedures.
- Recruit, interview, and select Dining Room Aides with the approval of the Food Service Supervisor.
- Schedule department work hours, personnel, and work assignments to expedite workflow.
- Complete performance evaluations in a timely manner.
- Orient new employees to the facility, department, and its policies and procedures.
- Recommend equipment and supply needs of the Department to the Food Service Supervisor.
- Direct wait staff in the dining room, ice cream parlor, and bar.
- Maintain proper table and linen setup in the full-service dining room.
- Ensure quality food presentation with a variety of garnishes.
- Oversee the service of ice cream in the ice cream parlor to residents, employees, visitors, and guests.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the popcorn machine at all times.
- Ensure residents in the full-service dining room are correctly served therapeutic diets per menu extensions.
- Supervise diet aides/dining room aides in proper preparation and presentation of salads and desserts using standardized recipes.
- Oversee the daily service of appetizers, liquor, beer, and wine from the bar.
- Update resident diet cards and menu cards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
