About the role
The Host plays a major role in the hotel's Food & Beverage experience. The Spirit to Serve is a key element in a positive customer experience. This position is responsible for greeting guests at the door. The host seats and presents clean menus to guests in a friendly, professional and quick manner.
Responsibilities
- Greets and seats guests, presents menus to guests, informs them of any specials
- Treats all guests in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction. Always strives to exceed guests' expectations
- Runs the floor plan board
- Observes tables and keeps track of clean, dirty and occupied tables
- Takes guest information and quotes wait times to guests accurately when tables are not immediately available
- Cleans, organizes and stocks menus at host area
- Answers phone and answers questions concerning the menu and restaurant
- Interacts with guests as they arrive and as they leave the restaurant to ensure positive dining experience
- Maintains specific side-work and ensures the cleanliness and smooth operation of the restaurant
- Quickly clears and resets tables
- Maintains restaurant, bar, and restroom space cleanliness restrooms throughout shift
- Sweeps foyer and front entrance area frequently
- Fills to-go orders, if applicable
- Knows when to escalate situations for management intervention
- Completes other tasks and duties as assigned based on business needs
Requirements
- Previous hotel/hospitality or related service industry experience is strongly preferred
- Able to communicate effectively and follow directions in a multi-lingual environment
- A passion for the mission, vision, and values of Sherman Associates

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to sit or stand in designated work area throughout the day based on business needs
- Must have the ability to move around freely throughout the designated work area
- Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach tables and kitchen in a timely manner
- Must be able to lift up to 25-30 lbs. frequently throughout shift, and lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally
- Requires grasping, writing, sitting or standing, moving about freely, using computer, repetitive motions, bending, reaching, crouching, and communicating effectively
- Willing and able to wash hands frequently throughout the shift
