Responsibilities
- Greet arriving customers, seat them, establish rapport and assist with restaurant service.
- Receive and process payment for charges accurately.
- Escort customers to assigned tables, issue menus, and solicit rapport to accommodate special needs or requests.
- Assign sections and notify servers of new seats to ensure immediate and proper attention.
- Maintain a visible presence in the restaurant by circulating and assisting servers, responding to customer requests, and assessing operational efficiency.
- Process transactions on a computerized cash register, count back change out loud, and verify accuracy of guest checks.
- Elicit feedback from departing customers and distribute and account for all checks issued to servers.
- Balance and reconcile computerized and manual reports at the end of each shift.
- Maintain a clean and attractive restaurant by assisting with cleaning duties.
- Report maintenance or housekeeping discrepancies to management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience of 3 months in a position with heavy cash handling responsibilities and customer service exposure.
- Knowledge of high school graduate level mathematical aptitude, standard cash handling procedures, and computerized cash register systems.
- General knowledge of customer service skills, restaurant operations, and food service principles.
Physical Demands
- Standing and walking during entire shift.
- Carrying, lifting, and bending.
- Handling coins and writing utensils.
- Standing throughout the shift and lifting arms above head to retrieve objects from shelves.
- Communicating verbally and in writing in English.
- Dealing with a variety of customer service problems, including stressful and highly emotional situations.
- Surveying the entire room in dimly lit conditions.
