Responsibilities
- Provide onsite Hospital Medicine Physician services for VA patients
- Admit and coordinate care for hospitalized medical patients
- Perform histories and physical examinations
- Determine appropriate inpatient placement
- Evaluate, treat, and manage hospitalized patients
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including labs, imaging, and EKGs
- Administer medications normally considered part of hospital medicine practice
- Discuss end-of-life preferences and advance care planning
- Coordinate consultations with subspecialists
- Lead timely and proactive discharge planning
- Coordinate care with primary care physicians
- Ensure appropriate follow-up after discharge
- Provide perioperative care
- Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition for inpatients with emergent conditions
- Run code teams and rapid response teams
- Review inpatient admissions recommended by PA or NP providers
- Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions coordinated with the next care setting
- Communicate test results in accordance with VA requirements
- Document care and coding in the VA electronic health record / CPRS by the end of each patient encounter
Requirements
- MD or DO
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
- Experience providing hospital medicine services consistent with the scope of care
- Current BLS
- Current ACLS
- Current DEA
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
- Ability to provide current CME documentation as required for VA credentialing and privileging
- Ability to obtain and maintain VA credentialing and privileging before providing services
Preferred Qualifications
North Dakota medical license is preferred, but the source allows a current license from any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or DC for onsite VA work.
