Hospital Transport

Purpose

Transfer and transport patients safely and effectively from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/testing areas.

Responsibilities

• Transport stable, non‑monitored patients between patient care areas and diagnostic/testing areas (CT, X‑ray, Angio, Hemo) and to inpatient units for admissions.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, and direct care providers; speak with the RN or healthcare provider before and after each transport.
• Assist patients with restroom needs as necessary.
• Safely transfer patients using approved devices such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital‑approved transfer devices.
• Clean transport equipment between each patient use.
• Locate, transport, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary items.
• Replace oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
• Provide directions to families and/or visitors.
• Maintain current BLS certification.
• Attend and participate in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (recommended).
• Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
• Prior healthcare experience is not required.
• Current BLS certification (maintained).
