About the Role

This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In Office Phlebotomy (IOP), or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS). This position may be responsible for providing coverage at multiple locations. Responsibilities include the collection and receipt of biological specimens, proper entry into the company’s computer system, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and distribution of specimens to the appropriate analytical area. This role also covers pre and post aspects of analytical testing and may perform specified analytical testing as assigned.

In IOP locations, the role involves managing client relationships within Compliance regulations to meet client needs and satisfy Sonora Quest’s business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity using appropriate techniques for all age criteria.
  • Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, clinical information, and other pertinent data for processing and billing.
  • Verify accuracy of entered information and appropriateness of specimens received.
  • Aliquot and label specimens according to established procedures, deliver specimens to technical areas, and perform initial processing and preparation for transport.
  • Monitor workflow and assist in training new employees.
  • Focus on quality by ensuring accurate and complete work, following established methods, and maintaining familiarity with departmental procedures.
  • Complete documents legibly and accurately per site protocol.
  • Use appropriate documentation to record communications and initiate computer-generated reports for patient reporting and quality assurance.
  • Meet departmental standards for productivity and quality, including maintaining acceptable specimen rejection rates.
  • Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through appropriate use of supplies and materials, avoiding excessive waste.
  • Engage in initiatives to reduce costs and improve service.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of billing and commitment to an error-free work environment.
  • Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers, emphasizing teamwork and customer service.
  • Resolve basic service issues and attend meetings to stay current with internal/external communications.
  • Acknowledge and understand the importance of ‘Patient Rights’ and privacy (HIPAA).
  • Be available to work all areas/departments/shifts as assigned, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Schedule

Evening shift: 2:00 PM – 12:30 AM, with days varying. 40 hours per week, including rotating every other weekend and holiday.

Pay

New graduates: $19 per hour. Experienced (3+ years): $21.07 - $23.36 per hour, depending on experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (may be required dependent on state regulations).
  • Basic knowledge of department resource materials.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience.
  • Phlebotomy certification as defined by state regulations.
  • Position may require DHS Fingerprinting Certification or the ability to obtain it.
  • For float positions: Must be available for travel and flexible hours to work multiple locations, including mobile phlebotomy facilities and in-office phlebotomy locations with minimal notice.
  • Must be flexible and available based on staffing requirements, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • May be required to work occasional on-call duties, including weekends, evenings, and early mornings.
  • Dependent on department/location, must possess a valid state driver’s license and be eligible for company auto insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.
