About the role
Hematology & Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg is expanding and seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) with a passion for oncology to join their team. This advanced practice provider (APP) will provide medical oncology and hematology care, focusing on follow-up care, symptom management, and acute care.
Responsibilities
- Assists physicians in patient care and education.
- Performs physical assessments and interviews patients.
- Writes prescriptions based on laboratory results and practice protocols.
- Determines eligibility for clinical trial participation.
- Interprets test results and communicates findings to physicians.
- Dictates follow-up letters to referring physicians.
- Documents patient care in accurate, timely notes.
- Maintains work area and records in a neat order.
- Ensures confidentiality of patient and employee information.
- Trains new employees on related job duties.
- Works at multiple locations as needed.
- Manages work priorities and completes assignments.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary rounds.
- Provides on-call coverage and performs hospital rounds.
- Triage patients based on urgency.
- Supports marketing and promotion of cancer treatment.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant program.
- Master’s degree required.
- APRN or PA license in the appropriate state.
- Prescriptive privileges or eligibility to apply.
- Current certification from ANCC or ONS (AOCN-P).
- Current BLS certification.
- Minimum 5 years experience as an APRN or PA, specifically in oncology.
