Job Summary

The Hospitalist Medicine APP will deliver primary health care in the Inpatient setting to include, but not limited to, the recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries, and the provisioning of care across the health care continuum with emphasis on early detection, treatment, and prevention of diseases.

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Night Shift Hospitalist APP to manage overnight clinical workflows from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM at our Rahway location. Working alongside an in-house Physician, responsibilities include evaluating and admitting patients from the Emergency Department, responding to nursing concerns, and managing acute clinical issues that arise overnight. The role independently handles up to 9 admissions per shift.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • A reliable clinician with a reasonable commute to Rahway and flexible availability for night shifts.
  • Currently in an admitting Hospitalist role or a recent graduate with strong, recent inpatient experience.
  • Previous experience with EPIC is highly preferred.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working independently to manage the shift's admissions and acute patient needs.

Essential Functions

  • Obtains and records patient history
  • Performs physical and medical screening examinations
  • Orders & interprets diagnostic and therapeutic studies
  • Orders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or other therapies as appropriate
  • Establishes diagnostic decision-making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, additional therapeutic modalities, etc.
  • Collaborates with other members of the health care team
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health, referring patients to appropriate specialists/resources
  • Completes charting in a thorough and timely manner
  • Adequately manages patient flow in the inpatient unit with emphasis on length of stay optimization
  • Performs procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician
  • Participates in Department staff meetings and risk management education
  • Completes required courses, i.e. HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME /CEU requirements.

Job Requirements

  • If a Physician Assistant: Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies is required, Physician Assistant Certification is required, Registration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners, Physician Assistant Advisory is required, Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support Certifications are required, New Jersey CDS and DEA Licensure are required.
  • If a Nurse Practitioner: Masters Degree in Nursing from Accredited Program is required, Registered Advanced Practice Nurse License from NJ State Board of Nursing is required, Licensed Registered Nurse in state of New Jersey is required, Prior work experience as a professional nurse is required, Basic life support and advanced life support certifications are required, NJ CDS and DEA Licensure are required.
