About the role

The role involves providing clinical administrative and patient care support to the Department of Anatomic Pathology at Parnassus, Mount Zion, and Mission Bay campuses. Responsibilities include receiving and processing anatomic pathology, cytology, and molecular consultations and requisitions, registering patients in the APeX and CoPath systems, maintaining patient records, responding to requests for patient reports, slides, and blocks, and coordinating clinical conferences and tumor boards.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and accesses anatomic pathology, cytology, and molecular consultations and requisitions from internal departments and external facilities.
  • Serves as a liaison between internal and external departments, verifying billing information and obtaining authorizations.
  • Maintains pathology slides, blocks, and patient records and responds to requests from internal and external facilities.
  • Registers patients and institutions in APeX and CoPath systems, acquiring necessary insurance authorizations for reimbursement.
  • Maintains and organizes patient records, reports, slides, and blocks.
  • Coordinates weekly clinical conferences and tumor boards.
  • Responds to requests from internal and external facilities for patient reports, slides, and blocks.
  • Coordinates research and legal requests, prepares and submits requests for special stains.
  • Acts as a customer service representative for internal and external inquiries.
  • Performs general administrative tasks such as courier receipt and distribution, mail distribution, and customer service assistance.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree or at least one year of equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Preferred: Coursework in Biology/Anatomy, previous work experience in pathology or a medical laboratory environment, and working knowledge of APeX and/or CoPath systems.
  • Key Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of medical terminology, ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities, and ability to understand the complexities within a specialty department.
