About the role

This position involves performing technical tasks in the Microbiology Laboratory, including specimen receipt and processing, culture media and smear preparation, and aliquot preparation for further testing.

Responsibilities

- Receive and process clinical specimens submitted for microbiological and molecular diagnostic testing. - Accession specimens in the laboratory information system. - Inoculate culture media and prepare smears for microscopic examination. - Prepare aliquots for further testing. - Handle and process blood specimens (centrifugation, pipetting of serum and/or plasma, or operating automated specimen processing instruments), if applicable. - Work with electronic laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records systems. - Process non-blood specimens (sputum, body fluids, culture swabs, etc.) for microbiology testing, including preparing smears and inoculating culture media.

Requirements

- Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or two (2) years of college courses in the natural sciences plus two (2) years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - One (1) year of experience working in a clinical laboratory setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree, or combination of coursework and relevant work experience. - Windows-based computer skills. - Experience handling and processing blood specimens. - Experience working with electronic laboratory information systems. - Experience with electronic medical records systems. - Experience with processing non-blood specimens for microbiology testing.

Special Conditions

- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical. - Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, overtime, and at various locations as necessary in accordance with operational needs. - Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 pounds, and have sufficient fine motor skills to perform technical tasks associated with the position.

Pay

Annual Full Pay Range: $75,961 - $75,961 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $36.38 - $36.38
