The Role Your Mission: As our next Hospital Coder II/Outpatient Coder, Responsible for coding complex outpatient oncology claims may also assist with other specialty outpatient areas such as interventional radiology, pain management, and cardiology. Responsible for the selection of applicable Diagnoses and Procedures, sequence codes following the ICD-10-CM and CPT official coding guidelines. Also responsible for claim edit work queues. Advance coding knowledge and practice through continuing education, including but not limited to meeting continuing education requirements. What You’ll Do Day-to-Day Assign codes to diagnoses and procedures using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) Codes primarily for complex Oncology services or may assist with other outpatient services such as interventional radiology, pain management, and cardiology. Assist with accurate capture and reporting of data fields such as discharge disposition. Ensures codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations as well as coding guidelines. Maintain coding claim edit work queues for timely filing and prompt revenue capture. Accurate assignment of coding modifiers for correct coding initiatives. Communicate (Query) with the medical staff for any documentation that is insufficient and/or unclear. Participates in coding audits and reviews the feedback from the audit timely. Collaborates with the audit findings for ongoing growth and improvement. Understands and works Epic coding workflows, work queues, coding edits and claim edit resolution. Evaluated on key metrics: coding accuracy in accordance with coding guidelines, meeting coding productivity standards and coding denials. Understands the role of coding in revenue cycle and timely filing and strives to perform above standard. Other duties as needed to meet the needs of the organization/department Proven Track Record Who You Are & What You’ll Bring One or more years of hospital coding oncology experience. Epic Coding Experience Preferred. ICD10 CM and CPT coding classification. Modifier assignment in accordance with coding, billing and payor requirements. Education/Certifications Two-year degree in Health Information Management or related field. AHIMA or AAPC Coding Certification required. Oncology service credentials preferred. Technical Savvy Proficient with computer applications such as 3M Encoder and Microsoft Teams. Travel Requirements: No travel required Physical Readiness: Capability for sedentary work, including sitting for long periods and occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds of force.
