About the role

As the Hospital Chief Executive Officer at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Alexandria, you will provide overall leadership and operational direction for the facility, ensuring the delivery of high-quality psychiatric care for adults and seniors managing anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will oversee all departments, budgets, and functions while driving the hospital’s mission and long-term strategic goals. Your leadership will shape innovative, patient-centered programs and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall operation of the hospital, including financial and physical assets, under the oversight of the Governing Board.
  • Oversee the preparation and administration of the annual budget, ensuring optimal control of expenditures and financial performance.
  • Recruit, employ, and direct qualified professional and auxiliary personnel, delegating duties appropriately to maintain adequate staffing levels.
  • Submit monthly reports on the hospital’s professional services and financial activities, along with any special reports required by the Governing Body.
  • Assist the Governing Body in policy formulation by presenting long-term and short-term plans, resource reports, operational evaluations, and financial statements.
  • Attend or designate representation for all Medical Staff meetings and collaborate with the Medical Staff to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Joint Commission regulations, as well as facility policies and performance improvement standards.
  • Communicate policies, plans, and goals effectively to all staff members to foster alignment and accountability.
  • Determine the scope of care, treatment, and services provided directly or through contracts, ensuring patient safety and efficient patient flow.
  • Address and mitigate patient safety risks by assessing operational impacts and implementing solutions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the hospital’s mission and objectives.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree, with an undergraduate or graduate degree in Behavioral Services, Administration, or a related healthcare field.
  • One of the following combinations of education and experience:
    • Master’s Degree and at least three years of full-time experience in progressively responsible healthcare management roles, or
    • Baccalaureate Degree and at least five years of full-time experience in progressively responsible healthcare management roles, or
    • At least ten years of full-time experience in hospital administration.

Skills

  • Strong leadership with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Broad knowledge of tasks and resources required to achieve company objectives, including fiscal and environmental management.
  • Understanding of third-party payer requirements and cultural sensitivity to diverse employees and service consumers.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of State, Federal, and Joint Commission regulations.
  • Ability to complete CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

Work Environment

  • Subject to frequent interruptions and occasional high-pressure situations due to multiple inquiries and calls.
  • May experience a fast-paced, stressful environment requiring strong mental and physical coping abilities.
  • Exposure to disagreeable odors, sights, and unpredictable patient behavior may occur.
  • Primarily indoor work (90% or more) in a climate-controlled building, though temperature variations may occur.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
