About the Role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works within the multidisciplinary clinical team to provide individualized patient care through history and physical assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, medication ordering, prescribing and management, formulating diagnoses, and patient/family education. They promote evidence-based practice by conducting or participating in research and academic activities. The role is unique to each division and in accordance with individual credentialing and privileging through the Medical Staff Office.

This position requires working approximately 25% of hours on the night shift, every other weekend and holiday, and taking 2-3 call shifts per schedule. New graduates must have already completed their program and have some pediatric experience. The estimated start date for the position is November 2026.

Advanced Practice Provider Transition into Practice Fellowship

Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago offers an APP transition into practice fellowship for all new graduate APPs. All new hire APPs, even those with experience, are invited to participate. The fellowship is designed to provide a supportive structure to facilitate the transition from the academic to clinical setting for newly hired APPs and institution-to-institution transition for those with experience.

The first year of employment includes quarterly didactic sessions with integrated facilitator-led peer-supported transition sessions, structured mentorship, and precepted practice-based learning with standardized competencies. The fellowship aims to develop well-prepared, clinically competent APPs, build confidence, and foster collaborative practice.

Responsibilities

• Provides expert clinical care, education, consultation, advocacy, research, leadership, and mentorship.
• Manages primary, acute, and chronic health problems through comprehensive history and physical examination assessment and diagnosis, including palliative and end-of-life care.
• Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures.
• Orders and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and performs other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status.
• Promotes the advancement of the profession at Lurie Children’s and the community-at-large through publication, participation in professional organizations, and providing educational support to the nursing staff.
• Collaborates and coordinates care with the medical team to deliver evidence-based care and establish best practices in clinical care.
• Participates in research design, implementation, and interpretation.
• Meets the Medical Staff’s Allied Health Practitioners core measures of performance related to patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal communication skills, professionalism, and system-based practice.
• Performs job functions adhering to service principles with a customer service focus of innovation, service excellence, and teamwork.
• Role may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school appropriate for certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. (CNS certification is not acceptable if hired after January 1, 2010).
• Two (2) years of relevant clinical experience is preferred.
• Licensure in the State of Illinois as an APRN/PA is required.
• Clinical privileges through credentialing by the Medical Staff Office achieved within 90 days of hire.
• Practices under the direction of advanced practice provider or physician providers until fully credentialed and privileged.
• Basic Life Support certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification and/or other specialty certification is required in some areas within 6 months of employment.
• Any other certification required for the specialty area.
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, basic computer skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $138,403.20 - $228,363.20.
