Hospice Volunteer

About the Role

We are seeking compassionate and caring volunteers to join our team in the Sandwich area! As a hospice volunteer, you will work closely with our Volunteer Coordinator and interdisciplinary team to provide emotional and task-oriented support to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Provide emotional and task-oriented support to patients and their families
• Assist with daily activities, such as reading, playing games, or watching movies
• Engage in meaningful conversations and listen to patients' stories
• Help with light household chores or meal preparation
• Attend patient care conferences and provide input on patient care
• Make phone calls to patients and families to offer support and companionship

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must have a reliable and insured method of transportation and a valid driver's license
• Must be willing to visit patients in their home setting (skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, hospitals, homes, etc.)
• Must be willing to commit at least one hour a week for a minimum of six months
• Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
• Must be able to deal tactfully with confidential and personal information regarding patients and their plan of care
