About the Role
Hospice Services of Massachusetts is seeking compassionate and caring volunteers in the Sandwich area. Volunteers work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator and the interdisciplinary team to provide emotional and task-oriented support to patients and their families.
Tasks may include reading to patients, doing arts & crafts, listening to music, reminiscing on memories, or simply having conversations about current events. A great hospice volunteer is someone with a big heart, dedicated to providing a meaningful and comfortable end-of-life experience for patients and their families.
No prior experience is required—we will prepare and support you throughout your time as a volunteer.
Responsibilities
- Provide emotional and task-oriented support to hospice patients and their families.
- Engage in activities such as reading, arts & crafts, listening to music, or reminiscing.
- Visit patients in their home settings, including skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, hospitals, or private homes.
- Handle confidential and personal information regarding patients and their care plans with tact and discretion.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a reliable and insured method of transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to commit at least one hour per week for a minimum of six months (schedule is flexible).
- Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
- Must comply with vaccination policies: up-to-date COVID and flu vaccinations (or acknowledge a declination).
