Hospice Volunteer
About the Role
We are seeking compassionate and caring volunteers to join our team in the Plymouth area. As a hospice volunteer, you will work closely with our Volunteer Coordinator and interdisciplinary team to provide emotional and task-oriented support to patients and their families.
Hospice Services of Massachusetts provides hospice care to patients throughout the state, committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of those diagnosed with a life-limiting illness by enabling them and their loved ones to live each day as fully and comfortably as possible. Our team of caring, professional staff and volunteers pays careful attention to the medical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients, their families, and friends.
Responsibilities
- Provide emotional and task-oriented support to patients and their families
- Assist with daily activities, such as reading, playing games, or watching movies
- Engage in meaningful conversations and listen to patients' stories
- Help with light household chores or meal preparation
- Attend patient care conferences and provide input on patient care
- Make phone calls to patients and families to offer support and companionship
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a reliable and insured method of transportation and a valid driver's license
- Must be willing to visit patients in their home setting (skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, hospitals, homes, etc.)
- Must be willing to commit at least one hour a week for a minimum of six months
- Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
- Must be able to deal tactfully with confidential and personal information regarding patients and their plan of care
Additional Information
Our facility follows federal and state guidelines regarding staff vaccinations. Our policy requires all staff to be up to date with COVID and flu vaccinations, or acknowledge a declination of the vaccination(s).
