Hospice Volunteer
About the role
Hospice Services of Massachusetts is seeking compassionate and caring volunteers in the Lowell area to work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator and the interdisciplinary team. Volunteers provide emotional and task-oriented support to patients and their families, such as reading, arts & crafts, listening to music, reminiscing, or engaging in conversation about current events. Our mission is to ensure a meaningful and comfortable end-of-life experience for patients and their loved ones.
Responsibilities
- Provide emotional support to patients and families
- Engage in task-oriented activities (e.g., reading, arts & crafts, music, conversation)
- Visit patients in their home settings, including skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, hospitals, and private homes
- Work collaboratively with the Volunteer Coordinator and interdisciplinary team
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a reliable and insured method of transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Must commit to at least one hour per week for a minimum of six months (flexible scheduling available)
- Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English
- Must handle confidential and personal patient information with tact and discretion
No prior experience is required—training and support will be provided throughout your volunteer service.
All staff and volunteers must comply with federal and state vaccination guidelines, including staying up to date with COVID and flu vaccinations or acknowledging a declination.
