About the role
Emmanuel Hospice is a non-profit hospice organization located in Grand Rapids, MI. Our goal is to provide exemplary spiritual and physical care creating a peaceful experience for the dying and their loved ones. We serve folks within a 50-mile radius of our downtown office wherever they call "home". This could be a nursing facility, assisted living space, or home setting.
Responsibilities
- Bring joy to individuals at the end of life through one-on-one musical engagement and socialization.
- Reduce stress, anxiety, and provide comfort to patients.
- Offer musical companionship by playing instruments, singing, playing songs people love, reminiscing about music, and providing general companionship.
- Visits are one-on-one as requested by the patient and their care team, typically lasting about 1 hour and happening on flexible days and times (days, evenings, weekends).
Requirements
- Must be 18+
- Valid driver's license
- Auto Insurance
- Background Check and Fingerprinting
- TB Testing
- Annual Flu and original Covid vaccine or medical or religious exemption
- Flexible online and in-person training (about 8 hours total)
- General friendly demeanor
- Ability to communicate well and engage with new people
- Comfortable in various home settings and facilities
Music Qualifications
- General knowledge of music and music principles
- Ability to play an instrument (guitar, ukulele, harp, etc.)
- Ability to adapt to individual cognitive levels and play soothing and engaging music
