About the role

The Hospice House Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) delivers personal care services to patients in the Hospice House, ensuring their physical and emotional comfort. The CNA assists hospice patients with daily living activities and provides support to ensure their comfort, dignity, and quality of life during the end-of-life journey. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the CNA provides patient care and supportive services in accordance with the individual plan of care, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care services to hospice patients in the Hospice House.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities to maintain comfort and dignity.
  • Support patients’ physical and emotional well-being during end-of-life care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver care according to individual plans.
  • Participate in education and outreach activities to promote agency programs, including hospice care, advanced planning, and bereavement services.
  • Comply with agency policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Protect patient and agency information per HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintain current licensure, certifications, and required training.
  • Demonstrate support for the agency’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Available to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays with flexible hours.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license; must meet insurance eligibility requirements.
  • Ability to independently drive within Tri-Cities Chaplaincy’s service areas to provide in-home and facility-based care.
  • Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Safety (BLS).
  • Washington State Food Worker Card issued by the Department of Health.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, including cannabis testing (position is safety-sensitive).
  • Strong communication skills to interact with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Ability to report to assigned work locations as scheduled and maintain consistent attendance.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (speaking, reading, writing, and communication).
  • One year of CNA experience in hospice, home health, or long-term care settings.
  • Experience working with patients with chronic, terminal, or end-of-life care needs.

Schedule

Full-time, non-exempt position with an anticipated schedule of three 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) on a rotating basis, including every other weekend.

Pay

Hiring range: $20.63/hour – $26.60/hour.

  • $3,000 sign-on bonus for new hires upon successful completion of 90 days of continuous employment in good standing.
  • Premium pay:
    • $2.50/hour for weeknights.
    • $2.25/hour for weekend days.
    • $4.75/hour for weekend nights.
    • $4.00/hour for on-call standby.
    • Bilingual (Spanish) pay premium, subject to proficiency verification.
    • Certification-based premium pay, as applicable and approved.

Pay ranges are established based on education, certifications, knowledge, skills, experience, internal equity, and market conditions.

  • Bereavement leave: Three days for the loss of an immediate family member; two days for the loss of a household pet or service animal.
  • Community Volunteer Day (Yay Day): One paid day annually for volunteer service, granted each January.
  • Health insurance (effective the first of the month following hire date):
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
    • Employer-paid benefits: Basic life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance (1x annual salary), long-term disability, short-term disability.
    • Voluntary benefits: Supplemental life insurance, AD&D (additional coverage), pet insurance, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and accident insurance.
    • Discounted rate for Life Flight air ambulance.
  • Retirement: 401(K) plan with employee contribution upon hire; employer matching of up to 5% begins after one year of employment.
  • Mileage reimbursement: $0.72 per mile (subject to change based on IRS rates).
  • Tuition assistance: Up to $5,250 annually after one year of employment.
  • Professional development: Access to continuing education through platforms such as Relias Learning and CAPC.
