Responsibilities

  • Assist with personal care tasks including changing bedding, clothing, and bathing hospice patients.
  • Help with hygienic routines such as brushing teeth, washing hair, and keeping wound dressings clean and dry.
  • Instruct patients' family members on performing basic health-care routines for their terminally ill relatives.
  • Consult regularly with supervising registered nurses to keep the hospice team informed of patients' progression and families' needs.

Requirements

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Minimum of one year full-time experience in direct client care in an institutional setting (hospital or nursing facility).
    • One year of experience within the last five years in direct client care in a home health or hospice setting.
  • Must be registered and listed in good standing on the nurse aide registry in the state of employment.
  • Must possess basic demonstrated technology skills, including operation of a mobile device.
  • Must possess a valid state driver license.
  • Must maintain automobile liability insurance as required by law.
  • Must maintain dependable transportation in good working condition.
  • Must be able to safely drive an automobile in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must complete training and competency evaluation in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Must possess CPR certification.

  • Alaska: Must hold a home health aide certificate.
  • Alabama: No additional state-specified requirements.
  • Arkansas: May be a nursing student who has demonstrated competency in providing basic nursing skills with submitted documentation from the director or dean of the school of nursing, in lieu of being a CNA.

  • Connecticut: Must hold a certificate as a certified nursing assistant.
