Responsibilities
- Assist with various personal care issues including changing bedding, changing clothing, bathing hospice patients and helping with hygienic routines such as brushing teeth, washing hair and keeping wound dressings clean and dry.
- Assist patients' family members in caring for their terminally ill relatives by instructing them on how to go about performing basic health‑care routines.
- Consult on a regular basis with supervising registered nurses to keep hospice team members apprised of patients' progression and families' needs.
Qualifications
- Meet one of the following:
- Minimum of one year full‑time experience in direct client care in an institutional setting (hospital or nursing facility);
- One year experience within the last five years in direct client care in a home health or hospice setting.
- Be registered and listed in good standing on the nurse aide registry in the state of employment.
- Have basic demonstrated technology skills, including operation of a mobile device.
- Education and experience, preferred: May demonstrate an active willingness to learn the required skills in lieu of existing technology skills.
- State‑specific education and experience requirements:
- Alaska – Must hold a home health aide certificate
- Alabama – No additional state‑specified education, experience requirements
- Arkansas – May be a nursing student who has demonstrated competency in proving basic nursing skills with submitted documentation from the director or dean of the school of nursing, in lieu of being a CNA.
- Arizona – No additional state‑specified education, experience requirements
- Colorado – No additional state‑specified education, experience requirements
- Connecticut – Must hold a certificate as a certified nursing assistant
- Delaware – Must have completed one year in a department‑approved facility setting; or completed 75 hours of instruction training with practicum and supervision; or be a student nurse and completed clinical practicum.
- Florida – Must hold a home health aide certificate
- Georgia – No additional state‑specified education, experience requirements
- Idaho – Must hold a certificate as a certified nursing assistant
- Illinois – Must hold a certificate as a certified nursing assistant
- Indiana – No additional state‑specified education, experience requirements
- Kansas – Must hold a home health aide certificate
- Kentucky – No additional state‑specified education, experience requirements
- Louisiana – No additional state‑specified education, experience requirements
- Maryland – No additional state‑specified education, experience requirements
- Massachusetts – No additional state‑specified education, experience requirements
