Licensure or Certifications

  • At least two (2) units of CPE, accredited by ACPE; NACC units may be considered. Five units preferred.
  • In good standing with continued endorsement by the appropriate authority of his/her church, faith group or religious institute.
  • A valid driver’s license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Degrees/Experience

  • Completed graduate degree (MA, MDiv) in religious studies, theology, divinity or related field.
  • A strong background in functional theology and the ability to apply this in a pastoral manner to individuals and families.
  • Excellent communication skills with knowledge of counseling techniques.
  • Ability to identify clients’ needs with consideration to cultural, ethnic, religious, economic, and other diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience and compassion in ministering to those who are dying and their grieving families.

About the role

As a Chaplain you will:

  • Provide comprehensive holistic spiritual care to patients, families, and healthcare staff, including counseling, crisis response, and sacramental support.
  • Assist during emergencies, guide families through illness and end‑of‑life processes, and promote patient safety.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, participate in care planning, education, and ethical discussions, and support staff through consultations and training.
  • Contribute to departmental operations, mentoring, and community outreach while upholding organizational values and maintaining active involvement in their faith community.
  • Participate in the QA/CQI process for Advocate Hospice.

Schedule

  • Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, providing spiritual care support to hospice patients and families throughout the Sheboygan and Manitowoc service areas.
  • Participation in holiday and on-call rotations required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • May be exposed to blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Exposed to widely varying social and environmental conditions in patient’s neighborhoods and homes.
  • Availability and transportation to serve on-call rotation as needed.
  • Must be able to travel to all areas within the Advocate Aurora service area in all extremes of weather on all types of roads.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend throughout the workday.
  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime if needed.
  • Required to make visits to private residences which may not be accessible to people with disabilities.
  • Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids. Will be required to wear PPE, protective clothing and equipment as needed.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
