Horticulture Supervisor (#018066) Manning Reentry/Work Release Center, Columbia (RICHLAND) Level 1

Responsibilities

• Plan, monitor, and supervise a horticulture program for inmates at assigned location and other sites under general supervision of the chief horticulturist.
• Perform horticulture and grounds maintenance activities working with inmates to support the horticulture/grounds maintenance program and special projects.
• Provide supervision and instruction to inmate participants and assigned staff for care of complex grounds including landscape installation, maintenance, vegetable gardening, and seasonal color.
• Maintain equipment.
• Manage inventory of chemicals and maintain accountability for tools and equipment.
• Ensure security of the work area.
• Establish and maintain a greenhouse.
• Assist with special event support.

Requirements

• High school diploma and custodial, groundskeeping, or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment (State of South Carolina minimum).
• High school diploma and custodial, groundskeeping, or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment OR a horticulture degree focusing on the science and art of growing and managing plants (SCDC minimum).
• Must possess or obtain a South Carolina Applicator's Pesticide License within the first year of employment.
• Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
