Horse Trainer

About the Role

Culver Academies is a private boarding school dedicated to educating students for leadership and responsible citizenship. We seek a Horse Trainer to support our Horsemanship Program, evaluating and training horses for integration into our curriculum. Our campus, located on the shore of Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver, Indiana, spans 1,800 acres of green hills and woodlands, offering a historic and collegiate-like environment.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the capabilities of program horses and retrain or cross-train based on assessments.
• Break and train newly purchased or donated horses for successful integration into Culver’s Horsemanship Program.
• Perform horse grooming, clipping, trimming, and saddlery maintenance.
• Maintain a safe and clean stable environment.
• Exercise horses and utilize training techniques, including riding over ground poles and fences, lunging, and long reining with training aids.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or High School Equivalency.
• At least four years of horse training experience.
• Completion of an accredited Equine Study Program with an emphasis on military riding (drills, parades, and ceremonial riding) is highly desired.
• Experience riding over ground poles and fences for training.
• Competency in lunging and long reining with training aids.
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Comfort working around horses and ability to lift 50+ lbs frequently.
• Physically capable of extensive bending, stooping, and walking.
• Ability to work as part of a team and a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
