About the role

The position is designed to support the instructional process by serving as a teacher for special education students, focusing on academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills.

Responsibilities

  • Administers developmental testing programs, district assessments, and state tests to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
  • Assists in administering first aid and provides necessary care for medically fragile children.
  • Communicates with parents and guardians about student progress, achievements, and areas needing improvement.
  • Affirms student progress towards objectives, expectations, and goals such as behavioral, motor development, communication skills, academic needs, vocational abilities, etc.
  • Collaborates with various school personnel, parents, business partners, and community resources to enhance student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
  • Counsels students to improve their performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and personal issues.
  • Demonstrates and implements classroom and subject-specific assignments to provide an effective program addressing individual student requirements.
  • Differentiates classroom work to meet individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Directs para-professionals, volunteers, and student workers to ensure an effective classroom program and meet individual student needs.
  • Instructs students to improve their academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
  • Maintains confidential and non-confidential files and records according to administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Maintains a safe and positive learning environment by monitoring students in various educational settings and responding to emergencies.
  • Participates in meetings such as SAP, IEP, PLC, etc., to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares written materials like IEPs, grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc., to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Reports incidents such as fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc., to maintain personal safety and adhere to Education Code and school policies.
  • Schedules students with para-professionals and other school personnel for academic and/or therapeutic instruction to meet Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Supports classroom teachers in implementing established curriculum and individual student plans.

Requirements

  • Missouri State Teaching Certificate, Special Education Certification.
  • Continuing Education units.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
