About the role
We are seeking a Home Office Leader in E&S Casualty to join our dynamic team. This role is responsible for the overall performance and management of the E&S Casualty portfolio, overseeing and managing the underwriting book, driving profitable premium and rate goals, and maintaining a profitable portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Drive profitable premium and rate goals, working with actuarial and claims to deliver results consistent with financial plan.
- Work closely with brokers and agents to understand specific client needs and tailor insurance policies accordingly.
- Exercise discretion and self-supported judgment in analyzing and evaluating risk.
- Lead and participate in roundtable discussions on risk assessment.
- Maintain expertise with products, services, priorities, and target markets to better serve clients.
- Represent AXA XL at key industry events and conferences.
- Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements.
- Manage the overall portfolio management of the E&S Casualty book of business, including managing aggregate limits, understanding loss considerations, and achieving financial and operational goals.
- Work closely with the E&S Casualty unit as a referral manager, focusing on complex risks requiring additional support.
- Lead profitability reviews and manage the feedback loop process in collaboration with underwriting, actuarial, claims, legal, finance, and other relevant teams.
- Manage field underwriting authority and referral triggers to ensure appropriate checks and balances for profitable growth.
- Create and maintain class-specific guidelines with up-to-date industry knowledge and claim trends.
- Partner with the E&S Product team to evaluate and continuously evolve guidelines and procedures.
- Help develop talent across the E&S Casualty team through technical training, mentoring, and coaching interactions.
- Promote the sharing of knowledge regarding relevant global and regional trends, including claims trends.
- Identify further opportunities for training and upskilling junior underwriters.
- Own the E&S Casualty underwriting guidelines and best practices in alignment with E&S leadership.
- Provide extensive product knowledge and understanding to effectively liaise with partners in other functional areas, including Risk Control, Claims, Legal, Regulatory & Compliance, and Reinsurance.
Requirements
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience.
- Extensive experience in E&S Casualty underwriting and robust understanding of insurance principles and regulations.
- Outstanding existing marketing relationships with experience in production underwriting role.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain outstanding insured and broker contacts.
- Possess in-depth underwriting expertise across general classes and manage high-volume portfolios.
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and develop junior underwriters.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations.
- Outstanding collaborative skills in a fast-paced team-centric environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to demonstrate critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
- The ability to travel a minimum of 20% of the time is anticipated.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or higher in a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in E&S Casualty underwriting.
- Proven track record of successful underwriting and portfolio management.
- Experience in developing and implementing underwriting guidelines and processes.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Pay
Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual's skills, experience, and location. The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 132,200 – 257,100.
Schedule
This role requires a minimum of 20% travel.
