About the role
Operates equipment to move finished product for shipping or storage within a manufacturing environment. Supplies the Manufacturing Department with materials as needed, stages product for movement or shipment, and maintains inventory of supplies.
Responsibilities
- Operate forklift and hoist equipment to transport materials and finished products.
- Supply Manufacturing Department with necessary materials.
- Stage product for shipping or storage.
- Rack unused supplies and maintain inventory of type, amount, and location of items.
- Transport and process manufacturing paper by-products.
- Perform housekeeping duties, including emptying trash hoppers.
- Conduct routine daily inspections on hoist equipment and report maintenance needs.
- Perform battery service duties such as inspecting, recharging, and replacing batteries, as well as lubricating truck’s moving parts.
- Change LP/Propane tanks as required.
- Adhere to and promote all safety policies and procedures, including proper handling of hazardous waste, lock out-tag out rules, and hearing and eye protection policies.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Must understand the dimensions (height, width, length) of the forklift truck and its load capacity.
- Ability to assess doorway, aisle, shelf, and bin dimensions to safely maneuver the forklift and its load.
- Knowledge of storage area layout to locate and place items without detailed instructions.
- Skilled in operating forklift trucks in confined spaces for stacking or removing loads.
- Proficient in handling controls for driving forklift and/or clamp trucks, including starting, stopping, backing, and navigating narrow aisles, ramps, and vehicles (e.g., railroad cars, trucks).
- Ability to lift, lower, and tilt forks using hand, arm, foot, and leg controls.
- Must recognize whether the forklift can safely lift a load and if the load is properly balanced.
- Greater skill and knowledge than a Hoist Operator 1 in handling forklift controls.
Pay
The salary range for this role is $17.00 - $21.50 per hour. Starting pay is determined based on relevant education, qualifications, skills, experience, certifications, proficiency, performance, shift, location, and business needs. Roles typically follow step progressions to a target rate or set increments over time. Total compensation may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and/or stand-by pay.
