About the Role

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. The project spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities—Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification, and Analytical Laboratory—as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, and other support facilities.

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Selected applicants must be able and willing to work weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate construction tools and consumables inventories, including data entry into tool management systems, transfers for usage, and tracking tools for repairs.
  • Assist in inventory checks to balance and address discrepancies.
  • Prepare Field Material Requisitions (FMR) and perform data entry to facilitate tracking and planning needs for the site.
  • Support the deployment of the site tool program, assist in training craft personnel on use, min/max, and replenishment programs.
  • Monitor data requirements for the employee tracking system and coordinate tool repairs and recertifications.
  • Work with the Warehouse Superintendent and team for receipt, inventory, storage, and issuance of consumables, bulks, spares, equipment, and permanent plant materials.
  • Maintain direct working relationships with site warehouse and tool crib teams, Field Engineering, and Construction concerning storage and availability of materials.
  • Initiate requisitions for field purchases.
  • Assist superintendents with sourcing, deployment, and material/tool/consumable supply requirements.
  • Track field purchases and other procurement using procurement systems or databases.
  • Process Material Withdrawal Requests to deliver materials to Construction.
  • Assist with the disposition of surplus project materials.
  • Maintain min/max records for tools and consumables and monitor employee utilization, recommending changes to the Site Management Area Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 1-2 years of relevant experience, or in lieu of degree, 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check, including verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns are subject to additional security requirements that may limit site access.
  • Must be physically able to conduct field verification and participate in project walk-downs, including extensive walking, climbing ladders/scaffolding, using fall protection and PPE, walking on elevated platforms, uneven surfaces, and maneuvering in confined spaces.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the essential elements of a field materials management organization.
  • Knowledge of skills necessary for clerical, warehouse craft, and material management positions.
  • Understanding of how automated materials management systems control project materials.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Knowledge of materials management principles relating to construction projects (e.g., planning, work packaging, just-in-time deliveries, issue on receipt, jurisdiction for delivered goods).
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with Procurement colleagues, Project Management, Engineering, Government Agencies, vendors, Accounts Payable, Quality Control, and craft/clerical personnel.

Schedule

4 x 10 schedule, Monday through Thursday, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Must be able and willing to work weekends as needed.
