About the Role

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste. The project spans 65 acres with four major nuclear facilities—Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification, and Analytical Laboratory—as well as operations, maintenance, utilities, and other support facilities.

Assigned to the Construction organization as a Survey Technician (ST), you will provide field and office support to the construction survey team, reporting directly to the Survey Engineer/Party Chief (PC). The role involves interpreting design drawings and specifications to determine equipment locations and supporting civil, structural, mechanical, and piping installations.

This position is located at the construction site (22 miles north of Richland) and follows a 4 x 10 schedule (Monday–Thursday, 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM). Some work may require reporting to the Richland office. The selected applicant must be able and willing to work night shifts (5:30 PM to 4:00 AM) and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide construction survey support to the Party Chief (PC) and Project Survey Manager.
• Support the survey team’s implementation of project safety, quality, and environmental programs.
• Assist the PC with accurate layout of construction work and recordation of field data according to job specifications.
• Perform duties of a Rod Person and/or Instrument Person on a direct-hire survey crew, operating survey instruments, GNSS rover, and other tools in accordance with Bechtel procedures.
• Perform additional duties in support of construction layout, laser scanning, or other survey activities, including substituting for the PC during absences.
• Ensure survey equipment is in good working order and properly transported.
• Assist the PC in supporting Field Engineering and Field Supervision.
• Develop and maintain survey data, including calibration baseline checks of survey instruments.
• Support the administration of the survey work request program.
• Assist in providing civil project completion documentation, including "As-Built" records.
• Perform verifications of subcontract survey work.

Requirements

• Engineering/technical degree and 1–2 years of experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying with modern instruments and software, or 5–6 years of directly related experience in lieu of a degree.
• Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check, including verification of employment and education.
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
• Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns are subject to additional security requirements that may limit site access.
• Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs, including extensive walking, climbing ladders/scaffolding, using fall protection/PPE, navigating elevated platforms, uneven surfaces, and confined spaces.

Preferred Skills:

• Prior DOE, NS&E GBU experience.
• CAD literacy and experience with CAD software.
• Experience with 3D laser scanning hardware and software.
• Experience with metrology field and office activities.
• Experience with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, and piping installation layout and verification.

Pay

Salary range: $72,000 – $109,800 annually, based on market data. Final salary is determined by education, experience, and qualifications.

Schedule

• 4 x 10 schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
• Some work may require reporting to the Richland office.
• Must be available for night shifts (5:30 PM to 4:00 AM) and weekends as needed.
