About the Role

5 Tool Performance is a baseball development facility with 17,000 sq. ft. of turf and gym space, conveniently located off three major intersecting highways in Westwood, MA. As a startup, every instructor shoulders multiple roles with significant on-the-job learning and a great diversity of tasks. Expectations are discussed during the interview process to ensure objectives and goals are clear.

Our goal is to train players to compete, perform, and push their bodies to their highest potential in stressful and tough situations while understanding how to safeguard and protect against injuries. We want mentally tenacious coaches who understand the real challenge is helping others navigate their own setbacks. We value coaches with experience playing at higher levels so there is compassion and understanding of how to work through tough moments. Development takes a long time — we exercise patience and pay attention to details, which can be tedious but very rewarding.

Our full-time instructors are fierce competitors; the focus is on the journey of training — the struggle, successes, and ability to make adjustments. Communication is paramount as we work together to create a culture of excellence, integrity, and good sportsmanship. Instructors must be mentally, emotionally, and physically available for clients. We value safety while pushing strength, force production, speed, rotation, and range of motion. We seek an experienced baseball instructor/coach who played at the college level and is interested in teaching, experimenting, and developing players, with a strong, healthy, mindset-oriented approach.

New hires start part-time for two months as a mutual evaluation period, with a full-time opportunity of $50K–$65K plus bonus depending on experience. Part-time salary depends on experience level and what you bring to the table (open to discuss in interview). Some instructors play semi-pro or pro and train during non-business hours. You’ll be part of a sports family with empowerment learning — bring your own concepts and couch them with leaders in the field, cross-training, and knowledge-based education.

Qualifications & Attributes

• Solid Communication Skills: Ability to share and express theories, concepts, and ideas through writing and presentation.
• Analytical Capacity: Understand baseball specifics and break down the swing via gut feel and the eye test; build platforms for hitting styles and approaches; draw conclusions from metrics.
• Team Player: Understand individual identity and work comfortably with others in a group setting daily.
• Coachable: Take criticism and feedback positively and make adjustments; be direct and honest with clients and the team.
• Passionate: Obsessed with baseball and willing to work startup hours; understand what failures/setbacks mean and how to rise.
• Confident & Open-Minded: Work with many player styles and types; amenable to others’ opinions while maintaining your own sense of identity.

Schedule

Fall/Winter Hours (Standard): Monday–Friday 12–7pm or 1–8pm; Saturday/Sunday revolving 9am–3pm and 11am–4pm respectively.

Fall/Winter Hours (Extended): Monday–Friday 12–9pm; Saturday/Sunday 9am–6pm.

Every instructor is expected to work weekends on a rotation, as that is when players need us most. Part-time openings are available for spring/summer.
