Primary Function

Maintains and organizes confidential patient medical records in order to keep track of important clinical details and updates patient medical information as needed.

Participates in multi-disciplinary primary care team to support the patient care process and facilitate the patient experience.

Team Functions

  • Ensures the privacy of all patient medical information in accordance to HIPAA regulations and company policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and updates patient's charts for current and future appointments.
  • Processes obtain and release of records in an efficient/accurate timely manner.
  • Scans and imports patient’s medical documents accurately.
  • Provides assistance to auditors as required.
  • Creates, generates, and analyzes reports as requested.
  • Facilitates resolution to patient complaints as needed.
  • Assists with inputting data into the Electronic Medical Record System, Practice Management System, analytical database, and other data reporting systems.
  • Assists with Call Center duties as needed.
  • Shreds or ensures proper disposal of patient medical records as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Education: Proof of education, training or experience as a Medical Office Assistant or Nurse’s Aide in the healthcare field or comparable experience. Associates Degree in Business Technology, specializing in Medical Office Assistant preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of six months experience in a medical/hospital setting. Familiarity with medical terminology and pharmacology preferred.
  • Skills/Knowledge: Demonstrate accurate typing of a minimum of 35wpm. Must be computer literate. Knowledge of use of various office equipment, i.e. copier, fax machine, scanning, etc. Skill in maintaining records. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to work with bilingual and multi-cultural people. Possess cultural sensitivity to a diverse group of people. Must have the ability and skills to work closely with administration, co-workers, and practitioners in an effective, cooperative and harmonious manner. Ability to read, write, and understand the English language and respond in detailed oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly. Skilled in establishing and maintaining working relationships with patients, practitioners, co-workers, and the public. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
