Responsibilities

• Signs on to specimens and accessiones them into computer systems.
• Operates and maintains equipment used for embedding, sectioning, staining, and cover slipping specimens.
• Maintains established facility and department policies and procedures.
• Performs quality control testing, equipment maintenance, identifies problems affecting test performance or reporting, and troubleshoots issues.
• Ensures analytic accuracy, precision, and sensitivity in test methods.
• Performs immunohistochemical staining, documents quality control, and maintains instrumentation and supplies.
• Follows safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and adheres to the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies.
• Prepares and processes cytology specimens for staining and examination by pathologists.
• Prepares specimens for research requests.
• Collects and processes biological specimens for analysis following established procedures.

Requirements

• Ability to prepare tissue specimens to confirm patient diagnoses.
• Ability to perform complex histological procedures, record and analyze data, and maintain/repair instruments.
• Up-to-date knowledge of specimen handling, ranging from accession to specimen storage.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledgeable in troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Ability to support continuous laboratory service improvement to ensure timely preparations for quality diagnoses.
• Ability to maintain safety standards and comply with government regulations in laboratory practices.
• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the health care industry.
• Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals.
• Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR education equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND have a laboratory training program that includes: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above); or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing OR qualified and served as testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024.

Schedule

• Tuesday - Saturday.
• 8pm - 4:30am.

Pay

• $23.71 - $44.09.
