Responsibilities

• The Histotechnician/Histotechnologist is responsible for cutting, staining and preparing tissue samples for the pathologist to review.
• They are also responsible for prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner.
• Maintaining proper accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations.

Qualifications

Education: H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required

Work Experience: No experience required; recent graduate from an accredited histology program accepted. Alternatively, one (1) year of technical experience in a surgical pathology laboratory is required; three years experience is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications: HT - Histotechnologist - ASCP Certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other acceptable agency, according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations. Upon hire required; individuals who recently moved to Georgia or completed academic/training requirements may be temporarily classified as technologist or technician for up to eighteen (18) months to complete an approved qualifying examination.
