Responsibilities
- Cutting, staining, and preparing tissue samples for the pathologist to review.
- Prioritizing testing procedures and completing them accurately and promptly.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all tests performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent, plus sufficient college/technical school courses and/or clinical training in Histology to meet ASCP (HT or HTL) requirements for certification.
- Must meet the Georgia Department of Human Resources Laboratory Licensure Division's requirements for a Histology Technician or Technologist.
- Recent graduate from an accredited histology program or one year of technical experience in a surgical pathology laboratory.
- Minimum Licensure/Certification: Certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or another acceptable agency, as per Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations.
- A temporary classification as technologist or technician for 18 months is allowed for individuals moving to Georgia or completing academic and training/experience requirements.
- Three years of experience in a surgical pathology laboratory is preferred.
