About the role

Teaching and learning is the core focus of Kilkenny and Carlow ETB and we are committed to recruiting high quality teachers with appropriate qualifications, expertise and experience.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate professional knowledge: in‑depth knowledge of subject discipline and pedagogy, awareness of syllabus requirements, keeping up to date with subject matter, integrating cross‑curricular links, evaluating teaching philosophies, participating in curriculum development.
• Demonstrate professional practice: planning and preparation of clear, challenging expectations; structuring schemes of work; selecting appropriate materials; creating a stimulating learning environment; managing behaviour; using varied teaching materials and technologies; focusing on assessment for learning; liaising with parents/guardians.
• Build communication and relationships: fostering positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, management and wider community; collaborating within the school team; supporting conflict resolution; motivating and celebrating student effort; promoting equality and inclusion; exercising duty of care; supporting extra‑curricular programmes.
• Show self‑awareness and self‑management: engaging in reflective practice; pursuing continual professional development; maintaining emotional balance; responding to feedback; adhering to the Teaching Council Code of Professional Conduct and social media guidelines; upholding professional integrity; modelling best practice.

Requirements

• Meet the general and special requirements set out by the Teaching Council of Ireland for the advertised subject(s).
• Be currently registered with the Teaching Council of Ireland and provide a current Registration Certificate or confirmation with the application.
• Applicants in their final year of a degree/postgraduate diploma leading to a teaching qualification may apply, pending results meeting the vacancy requirements.

16.91 hours per week (History – 6.91 hours, SPHE – 2 hours, RE – 6 hours, IMBV – 2 hours).
