About the role
The role involves preparing tissue specimens, supporting training and mentorship of new staff, troubleshooting technical or workflow issues, and performing specialized histologic procedures.
Responsibilities
- Trains new technologists and technicians on proper procedures and techniques
- Evaluates new technology for clinical application
- Aids in updating procedure manuals for inspections and accreditation
- Processes, embeds, and sections tissue for slide preparation
- Performs specialized histologic procedures, including nerve testing, enzyme histochemistry, and immunohistochemistry (IHC)
- Supports frozen sections as required
- Completes and submits proficiency testing
- Performs preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
- Maintains accurate case identification and tracking
- Adheres to hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices
- Functions as a senior technologist, providing advanced technical expertise and guidance to peers
- Serves as a resource to laboratory supervisors and managers
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field
- Certification: One of the following certifications is required: Histotechnician [HT(ASCP)] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or Histotechnologist [HTL(ASCP)] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC)
- Experience: 3-5 years of histology experience

- Knowledge: Fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique to include fixation, decalcification, processing, embedding, and routine staining
- Skills: Ability to troubleshoot issues, train new staff, and manage problems in an effective and organized manner
- Abilities: Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills

Pay
$39.11 - $46.93 per hour
Schedule
8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During the training period, the employee will start at 7:00 a.m.
