Histology Technologist II, Electron Microscopy

About the role

The role involves preparing tissue specimens, supporting training and mentorship of new staff, troubleshooting technical or workflow issues, and performing specialized histologic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Trains new technologists and technicians on proper procedures and techniques
• Evaluates new technology for clinical application
• Aids in updating procedure manuals for inspections and accreditation
• Processes, embeds, and sections tissue for slide preparation
• Performs specialized histologic procedures, including nerve testing, enzyme histochemistry, and immunohistochemistry (IHC)
• Supports frozen sections as required
• Completes and submits proficiency testing
• Performs preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Maintains accurate case identification and tracking
• Adheres to hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices
• Functions as a senior technologist, providing advanced technical expertise and guidance to peers
• Serves as a resource to laboratory supervisors and managers

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field
• Certification: One of the following certifications is required: Histotechnician [HT(ASCP)] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or Histotechnologist [HTL(ASCP)] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC)
• Experience: 3-5 years of histology experience

• Knowledge: Fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique to include fixation, decalcification, processing, embedding, and routine staining
• Skills: Ability to troubleshoot issues, train new staff, and manage problems in an effective and organized manner
• Abilities: Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills

Pay

$39.11 - $46.93 per hour

Schedule

8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During the training period, the employee will start at 7:00 a.m.
