Department Overview The Pathology department provides clinical and anatomical pathology services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Serves as a reference laboratory for routine and complex tests. Staff are specially trained in pediatric blood collection, age-specific techniques, and coping strategies to improve the patient and family experience. Position Summary Accountable for daily histology technologist duties, including preparation and processing of tissues. The work includes limited specimen gross, accessioning of all tissue types, histological processing, sectioning and staining. Provides oversight and work direction to histology technicians (HTs) and laboratory assistants in the absence of management. Other histology duties include but are not limited to, maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies, participation in evaluation of new techniques and methodology, revision and updating of techniques as needed. Baccalaureate degree AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histology program. Certified as a Histotechnologist (HTL) by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent professional organization. New HTL graduates have the first twelve months of employment to obtain their HTL certification. Must meet continuing education requirements to maintain certification if applicable. License/Certification/Registration required? ASCP or equivalent Education required? Yes, see above. If so, why? CLIA '88 regulations. Experience Previous experience in a health care setting. Previous experience as a histotechnician or histotechnologist preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requires an Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Computer skills specific to laboratory information systems. Detail oriented. Must be highly organized, efficient, and multifunctional. Must have good communications skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a team. Annual salaries displayed are based on full-time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on the employee’s scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full-time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs. In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
