Histology Technician/Histology Technologist (All Levels)

To perform this job successfully, the individual is required to perform, but not be limited to: preparation of quality tissue samples for histopathologic evaluation; identification of tissue samples for proper trimming techniques; embedding orientation; microtomy skills; performance of routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining procedures; knowledge of the use and maintenance of equipment used for the preparation of tissue samples; and the ability to maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and documents the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Maintains a safe, clean and orderly laboratory environment
- Performs trimming of fixed tissues
- Performs paraffin tissue processing
- Identifies required tissue sample orientation and performs paraffin embedding procedures
- Uses microtomy skills in the preparation of routine (paraffin embedded) microscopic slides according to standard operating procedures and/or required by study protocols
- Performs routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining as well as cover slipping microscopic slides
- Troubleshoots equipment and/or operation failures and takes appropriate actions to keep interruptions to a minimum
- Analyzes raw data collection and solves for deviation in standard operating procedures (SOP) and/or protocol requirements
- Disposition of hazardous chemical, generation of the hazardous chemical lab pack and data entry to the laboratory hazardous chemical records
- Ordering of warehouse supplies and data entry to laboratory inventory records
- Additional training pertaining to tissue trimming and bone decalcification
- Additional training pertaining to special necropsy procedures
Requirements
- Associates degree specializing in science preferred
- 1+ year laboratory experience and/or training
- HT (ASCP) eligible within one year of employment
- Basic computer software skills, MS Office Suite required
- Proficiency in English including speaking, reading, and writing
- Basic math skills for the preparation of reagents
- Ability to troubleshoot basic laboratory equipment
- Continual GLP training
- Identification of tissue organs and/or tissue samples
- Microtomy skills
- Routine hematoxylin and eosin staining
