About the role
The University of New England is seeking a Histology and Imaging Senior Core Technician to support the COBRE Histology and Imaging Core Laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Trim, process, embed, and section tissue (paraffin and cryosections).
- Stain tissue using routine and special staining methods.
- Perform immunohistochemical staining and troubleshooting.
- Utilize light microscopy (brightfield, widefield, and confocal) to obtain images for analysis.
- Prepare reagents and standards according to laboratory SOPs.
- Oversee maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain complete and accurate laboratory logs, including detailed methodological records.
- Maintain the laboratory in a clean and safe condition.
- Perform methyl methacrylate embedding and sectioning.
- Utilize FIJI and Imaris to develop image analysis pipelines.
- Provide training and consultation on equipment and techniques to core users, including laboratory staff and students.
- Perform optical tissue clearing experiments using various reagent systems.
- Review scientific literature as needed on a project-by-project basis.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biology, neuroscience, or a related field required, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
- Previous laboratory experience, including histology, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy, required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to collaborate effectively with others.
- Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills required.
- Strong organizational skills required.
- Must be careful, detail-oriented, and highly accurate in work.
- Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and capable of prioritizing tasks.
- Must be willing to learn new skills and adapt to new and challenging situations with enthusiasm.
- Flexibility is essential.
