About the Role

Join our team at Barnes Jewish Hospital as a Histocompatibility Technologist to make a direct impact on patient care and operations. The HLA laboratory primarily performs testing to determine compatibility between organ transplant and potential donors.

Schedule

Full Time - 40 Hours Per Week, Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends.

  • Day Shift: 5 days, 8-hour shifts or 4 days, 10-hour shifts
  • Training takes 6 months and is on day shift
  • Shift Differential Eligible

Location: Barnes Jewish Hospital (Institute of Health)

Responsibilities

  • Performs specimen processing of human biological material for specialized high complexity molecular and histocompatibility testing, requiring knowledge of basic molecular techniques, quality control, instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies.
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on complex and sensitive molecular equipment with an emphasis on clean technique.
  • Operates complex molecular instrumentation for patient testing, calibration, and validation of assay quality.
  • Delivers precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results.
  • Identifies technical and/or equipment malfunctions, including quality control and abnormal patient results.
  • Adheres to strict quality assurance practices to maintain the highly sensitive environment required for molecular testing techniques.
  • Prepares stock solutions and reagents following standard operating procedures and quality control procedures.
  • Conducts quality control testing of solutions and reagents and records results accordingly.
  • Ensures testing is ordered and billed correctly.
  • Maintains records for batch testing, including patient information, controls, quality indicators, lot numbers, and details on manual sample manipulation.
  • Provides laboratory testing services for a robust transplant program.
  • Manages primary data analysis and interpretation of analytically complex transplant patients and quality control test results.
  • Records results through the laboratory computer system accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and new assay validations, including FDA-approved assays and Laboratory Developed Tests.
  • Provides training for new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures, and use of equipment specific to the assigned area.
  • Communicates with nurses, clinicians, residents, and fellows regarding in-house and send-out testing practices, clarifying specimen type, stability, performing laboratory, and methodology.

Requirements

Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in a physical or life science related field.
