About the role

This nights-only role offers competitive salary compensation and comprehensive benefits, allowing you to focus on high-acuity trauma care while working alongside a strong, experienced trauma surgical team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage pre-operative and post-operative trauma patients in coordination with trauma surgeons
  • Perform tertiary evaluations of trauma admissions and provide episodic or problem-oriented care under physician direction
  • Assist with trauma quality performance improvement initiatives
  • Conduct complex patient care procedures usually performed by trauma surgeons but delegated to PAs
  • Assess patient complaints and deliver appropriate treatments
  • Utilize advanced assessment skills to anticipate and communicate complex patient issues
  • Order and interpret labs and diagnostic tests in collaboration with trauma surgeons
  • Monitor treatment plans and update trauma surgeons with critical information
  • Respond promptly to emergency trauma alerts
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Certified Physician Assistant with appropriate trauma experience preferred
  • Active or eligible Texas medical license or certification
  • Trauma care experience highly desirable

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Passing scores on the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE)

Pay

Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with experience

Schedule / Hours: Nights only

Patient Volume: High-volume trauma level 1 center

Practice Setting: Level I Trauma Center within South Texas Health System (STHS)

Support / Care Team: Multidisciplinary trauma surgery team with APPs and surgeons

EMR / Technology: Cerner electronic medical record system
